FAQ
Short answers to the questions people ask most often. For the longer version of any of these, follow the link into Core concepts.
How often are my prompts run?
Free runs the first 30 selected prompts once on ChatGPT. Plus reruns up to 80 prompts weekly on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Pro reruns up to 200 prompts weekly across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and Google AI Overviews. Scheduled runs are dated snapshots attributed to the active monthly version. See how we collect data.
Why did my visibility change when I didn't do anything?
Three common reasons: a competitor changed what they publish (visibility is competitive), the AI engines updated their answers, or normal run-to-run variation. Look at whether the change held across several runs and multiple AI engines before treating it as real. See reading a change in your visibility.
Which AI engines do you cover?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and Google AI Overviews, tracked separately because they often disagree. AI Mode is conversational search; AI Overviews are summaries on the standard search-results page. See AI engines we track.
What does each plan include?
Free provides 14 days to review a one-time snapshot with 30 ChatGPT prompt runs and four lifetime website audits. The workspace locks after the access window, while saved work is retained for upgrade. Plus adds 80 editable weekly prompts across ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, four audits per rolling 30 days, and tracking for up to 5 product or collection pages. Pro expands to 200 weekly prompts across every supported platform, ten audits per rolling 30 days, and tracking for up to 20 product or collection pages. Enterprise customizes brands, volume, cadence, reporting, and support. Managed outreach with high-karma Redditors is available as a monthly add-on on Pro and Enterprise. See Plan & billing.
Is Share of Voice the same as ranking #1?
No. Share of Voice is your average share within non-branded answers that name at least one direct brand. The leaderboard rank orders brands by that score, but the metric does not measure where a name appeared inside the answer. See Share of Voice.
What's the difference between a mention and a citation?
A mention is your brand name appearing in the answer text. A citation is the AI engine linking to a specific page as a source. You can have one without the other. See mentions, citations & sources.
Can you stop AI engines from saying wrong things about my brand?
No tool can guarantee that. Hallucination is inherent to how these models work. What AppearIn AI does is flag false claims early, with the exact wording and the sources behind them, so you can correct the underlying information and track whether it recurs. See hallucination flags.
How many prompts should I track?
Enough to reflect how customers actually ask about your category, typically across informational and commercial intents. Onboarding preselects at least 30; expand your library into the gaps you find. Free runs 30 selected prompts once, Plus tracks up to 80, and Pro tracks up to 200. The library can hold more candidates than the active set.
When do prompt changes take effect?
Free keeps its first runnable set fixed, while library changes remain saved. On Plus and Pro, adding or editing library prompts does not change the current locked set. Prepare the next version before its lock date; it becomes active at the start of the next month. If you do nothing, eligible prompts in the current selection carry forward with their latest library wording. See build a prompt set.
Can I track individual products, not just my brand?
Plus includes up to 5 product or collection pages per brand, while Pro includes up to 20. Each page can carry its own buyer questions, visibility results, and audit. See set up product tracking.
What are GEO and AEO?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is about getting cited in AI answers; AEO is about being usable by AI agents. The full primer lives in What is GEO & AEO?
